Sewer & Water Treatment

Major new sewer infrastructure is planned to support development across the Southern Thornlands PDA. The current plan divides the area into four sewer catchments and shows the trunk mains and pump stations intended to be delivered progressively, together with the connection into the wider existing sewer system.

The sewer overlay has been redrawn against the same Southern Thornlands PDA map foundation used elsewhere on this site. Nearby infrastructure outside the PDA remains visible where it falls within the mapped area.

What the map shows. The mapped sewer lines and catchments remain indicative planning information. They are not surveyed pipe or easement boundaries, and a line crossing a property does not confirm a property connection or a final construction alignment.

The sewer network is planned to arrive in stages

The current schedule begins in 2027 and extends to 2046. These dates come from the current infrastructure schedule and are indicative rather than guaranteed construction dates for individual properties.

Different parts of the Southern Thornlands PDA depend on different pieces of trunk sewer infrastructure. A catchment can therefore contain several mains and pump-station projects with different indicative delivery years.

The timing of an individual property connection will depend on the infrastructure actually delivered and the development around it, not simply the year shown for one nearby project.

Four broad servicing areas

The plan divides the Southern Thornlands PDA into Catchments A, B, C and D. These catchments help explain which parts of the trunk network are intended to work together.

What the sewer network includes

Gravity mains

Wastewater moves through these trunk pipes using gravity. The current mapped catalogue contains 12 gravity mains.

Pump stations

Pump stations move wastewater where gravity alone cannot. 4 planned pump stations are mapped in the current network.

Rising mains

These pressurised pipes carry wastewater away from pump stations. The current mapped catalogue contains 4 rising mains.

Sewer mains

Map 6 also identifies 12 non-trunk sewer mains separately from the trunk gravity and rising mains. They are shown as their own line type on the map.

Treatment & disposal

The infrastructure schedule includes 3 sub-regional treatment and effluent-disposal projects. Separately, the reviewed redraw also shows the existing outside-PDA treatment plant that the network connects toward; the source does not establish that the scheduled treatment projects are that existing facility.

Connection to the wider sewer system

The reviewed redraw now shows the northern rising main extending toward an existing treatment plant outside the PDA. A small gap remains at the treatment plant itself, matching the PDA source drawing. The treatment plant is not a new facility within the Southern Thornlands PDA; the planned network is intended to connect into that wider existing system.

How will it be delivered?

Major network infrastructure and local development work together

The PDA plan identifies the larger shared sewer infrastructure needed to service the growing area. Individual developments will also need the local pipes and connections required to connect their land into that broader network.

That means the sewer plan should be read as a staged servicing framework, not as a promise that every mapped pipe will be built at once or that every existing property will connect on the same date.
