Council withdraws its Southern Thornlands planning scheme amendment

Redland City Council withdrew its earlier Southern Thornlands planning scheme amendment after the State became the planning authority for the new PDA.

Planning & PolicyProperties & Land

At its general meeting on 21 May 2025, Redland City Council resolved not to proceed with proposed Major Amendment 02/21 for the Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area.

The local amendment had been intended to reflect Council's preferred future land-use outcomes. It became unnecessary as a parallel planning process after the Queensland Government declared Southern Thornlands a PDA on 4 April 2025 and Economic Development Queensland assumed responsibility for preparing the area's planning framework.

The withdrawal did not cancel or delay the PDA. It closed the superseded Council-led amendment pathway, leaving the Interim Land Use Plan and the forthcoming PDA Development Scheme as the relevant State-led planning instruments for new development in the area.
