The Queensland and Australian Governments announced the joint $2.4 billion Infrastructure Activation Fund on 18 May 2026 to accelerate housing in key growth areas. Southern Thornlands was named alongside Waraba, Mount Peter and other Queensland locations.
Economic Development Queensland says $544 million in catalyst infrastructure funding has been committed for Southern Thornlands. EDQ's published breakdown is $256 million for roads and transport, $137 million for sewerage, $93 million for parks, open space and community facilities, $29 million for water and $29 million for stormwater infrastructure.
EDQ says this investment is expected to support delivery of about 6,503 homes in the PDA by mid-2034, including 2,601 homes supporting first-home buyers. The funding commitment is a major enabling step, but it does not mean every scheduled project has been contracted or that every scope and delivery date is final. Those details should continue to be reported from later project-specific decisions and authoritative infrastructure records.
